Quilting is an integral part of Waterloo Region's heritage. The last week of May is the time when communities come together to host a variety of exceptional quilting and fibre arts events. While you are here, be sure to include the many fine shops and attractions of this area in your itinerary!

EXHIBITS AT THE MILLCONTEMPORARY FIBRE ARTGuest Artist: Chris Kummer is a fibre artist from the London area. She works on 3 dimensional/sculptural pieces and is a long time member of "Connections" Fibre Artists. In her Artist Statement Chris says about her TOTEM SERIES, "It is said that Totem represents a shared ancestral kinship. My stitching has been influenced by my travels and study of cultural anthropology. My intent is to blend the spirit of man with the fibre made by man." THE GRAND GUILD OF FIBRE ARTISTSEstablished in 2010, The Grand Guild of Fibre Artists is an organization that creates fibre art for residential, corporate and public settings. Members work in a wide variety of media and techniques to create decorative and functional pieces. They gather once a month to share their work, books, challenges, inspiration and business resources. Several members will have work on display at The Mill during the Quilt & Fibre Art Festival and welcome your comments. GROUP OF EIGHT FIBRE ARTISTS GUILDThe Group of Eight is a guild of multi-disciplined fibre artists formed in 2006. We have changed and grown from the original group and now number ten artists working in everything from quilting, beading, paper, hand stitching and felting to painting. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month in the Georgetown/Milton area.

While visitors are always welcome, new members must be juried in. The guild issues four challenges per year with participation being required in at least three of the challenges for membership. Members show works in galleries, exhibitions and other public venues. Several of the guild members also have blogs which can be followed by checking the Group of Eight blog at http://goegeorgetown.blogspot.com/ GOE looks forward to participating at St Jacobs for the first time and encourage visitors to come and comment. 3rd Floor |

CANADIAN EMBROIDERERS GUILD GUELPHThe Canadian Embroiderers’ Guild Guelph, (C.E.G.G.) is a teaching guild, open to anyone interested in traditional and contemporary forms of embroidery. Classes are on alternate Tuesdays from September to March. The classes are from 9:30am to 12:00 noon. The afternoon program from 1:00pm to 2:00pm might be a guest speaker, special presentation, hands on project, mini workshop, film, demonstrations, etc. The aims of C.E.G.G. are to build on the heritage of embroidery by refining needlework skills, to promote creativity while encouraging the interplay of ideas among members; and to extend awareness of embroidery to the community. This year’s C.E.G.G. annual Open House Tea and display of work is on April 17, 2012 from 1:00pm-5:00pm at Kortright Presbyterian Church, 55 Devere Drive, Guelph, ON (in the gym). Admission is free with a voluntary donation for the tea. C.E.G.G. is a participating guild of the Ontario Network of Needleworkers, (O.N.N.) and as such participates in Threadworks, Ontario Network of Needleworkers’ juried exhibition of stitchery. The next Threadworks takes place, May 2013 at The Wellington County Museum & Archives. C.E.G.G. is hosting the annual ONN meeting at Kortright Presbyterian Church, 55 Devere Drive, Guelph, ON, on May 9, 2012. Delegates from twenty one guilds from across Ontario will attend the AGM. They will put together a display from 10:00am – 4:30pm. Visitors to the display in the gym are welcome, Free Admission. There will also be a Merchant Mall. QUILTS FOR THE WORLDGuest Artists for this show are the Needle Sisters Quilt Guild of Elmira. See a beautiful display of quilts, wallhangings, and other quilted art completed by Guild members. Plus, see the work of talented local quilters. Some quilts going to the Mennonite Relief Sale in New Hamburg will also be on display. Enjoy the daily demonstrations and Gift Boutique.
