Telling The Mennonite Story
At the Visitor Centre in St. Jacobs
If you are interested in learning about the Mennonite people, then the newly refurbished "Telling The Mennonite Story" is a must-see in the Village of St. Jacobs. Take a multi-media journey, beginning with a 13 minute DVD presentation. Then browse through an informative exhibit of photos, artifacts and displays that describe the history, culture and religion of the Mennonites yesterday and today - in our area and around the world. Group visits can be arranged by appointment and group rates include a guided tour. $4.00 per person suggested donation.

Located adjacent to the Maple Syrup Museum, the St. Jacobs Quilt Gallery showcases exciting examples of quilting excellence. Exhibits change every few months and feature the work of individual artists, as well as groups and guilds. Visit the Gallery and discover why this region has become known as "the quilt capital of Canada." Be sure to visit during the St. Jacobs & Region-Wide Quilt Shows - held annually during the month of May.

Quilting is an integral part of the region's heritage, so it is fitting that  we're known as "The Quilt Capital of Canada". In addition to fine shops and galleries that cater to quilt enthusiasts year around, the month of May marks the time when the communities of St. Jacobs, Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge & New Hamburg come together to host a variety of exceptional events. (Known formerly as the Waterloo County & Area Quilt Festival). Dates and hours vary so please check details carefully and plan to attend them all! The story of electricity spans over 400 years! From early experiments with static electricity, it took 200 years to get to the point where light could be produced in the laboratory. Discover the St. Jacobs connection to the commercial use of electricity! See the original turbine that provided electric power to the Mill and the Village in earlier days as well as many interesting artifacts, photos and displays. This is sure to 'spark' your interest.

Hear the Whistle Blowin'
At The Model Train Exhibit

Experience the charm of Waterloo County's rural past depicted in an HO scale model railway at the Mill in St. Jacobs. The fascinating exhibit features various local scenes in miniature including a depiction of farming, barn raising, a Mennonite Meeting House and the Village of St. Jacobs. A work in progress, the landscape continues to develop and will eventually be traversed by three tracks with working steam and diesel era passenger train models as well as a small branchline freight train typical for Waterloo County during the steam era. In addition, there is a large display of “O” Scale trains and railroad memorabilia from the collection of Jan Gleysteen - illustrator, author and train buff. Open daily.
