Festival Waterloo Region & Beyond
Quilting is an integral part
of the region's heritage, so it is fitting that we're known
as "The Quilt Capital of Canada". In addition to fine shops and
galleries that cater to quilt enthusiasts year around, the month
of May marks the time when the communities of St. Jacobs, Waterloo,
Kitchener, Cambridge & New Hamburg come together to host a variety
of exceptional events. (Known formerly as the Waterloo County &
Area Quilt Festival). Dates and hours vary so please check details
carefully and plan to attend them all! Plan to attend the shows!
The story of electricity
spans over 400 years! From early experiments with static electricity,
it took 200 years to get to the point where light could be produced
in the laboratory. Discover the St. Jacobs connection to the commercial
use of electricity! See the original turbine that provided electric
power to the Mill and the Village in earlier days as well as many
interesting artifacts, photos and displays. This is sure to 'spark'

Hear
the Whistle Blowin’
At The Model Train Exhibit
Experience the charm of Waterloo County’s rural past depicted
in an HO scale model railway at the Mill in St. Jacobs. The fascinating
exhibit features various local scenes in miniature including a depiction
of farming, barn raising, a Mennonite Meeting House and the Village
of St. Jacobs. A work in progress, the landscape continues to develop
and will eventually be traversed by three tracks with working steam
and diesel era passenger train models as well as a small branchline
freight train typical for Waterloo County during the steam era.
In addition, there is a large display of “O” Scale trains
and railroad memorabilia from the collection of Jan Gleysteen -
illustrator, author and train buff. Open daily.
Dedicated entirely to
work by Woldemar Neufeld (1909-2002), the gallery opens during a
year of centenary celebrations of Neufeld’s birth that will
include the publication of a collection of Neufeld’s paintings
and blockprints.
Admission is by donation.
